FADER:
Communication ToolBranding | Motion Design | Infographics
Collaborators: Angela Zhong
Angela Zhong and I researched the typographic and informational system the pop culture FADER magazine demonstrates in their 119th issue, called Winter 2019, The Now Issue and throughout their site. We did this by measuring the grid and taking notes on hierarchy of text, image, and illustration.
After understanding the way in which FADER’s design functions, we took their elements of communication and presented them in our own
information tool, a zine.
To the right, you’ll see our physical and digital analyses, and below those, you’ll find our final zine. We extracted FADER’s flat colors, mirrored their doodles, and manipulated text so our work mimicked the style of FADER and communicated to the audience the general identity FADER follows.
Angela and I had a blast probing the design choices of FADER and experimenting with our own zine. FADER is a very unique publication, so it was exciting to create a booklet that could resemble something so entertaining. However, it was difficult to exhibit all information in a clear order that didn’t crowd, so instead we allowed our photos and text to crowd each other in an attempt to be as unpredictable as the way FADER behaves.
